Geography Resources for Teachers

  1. Degree Confluence Project - The goal of the project is to visit each of the latitude and longitude integer degree intersections in the world, and to take pictures at each location.
  2. Africa Online - A current events site focusing on African cultures and affairs, with lots of pictures, graphics, short articles and topical information.
  3. Maps Of Africa - A great database of African maps for geography/history teachers. Be warned, the map files are large and may take a while to download.
  4. Teaching India - This site, sponsored by the North bay International Studies Project, provides links to teaching information about Indian culture, history, and religion.

  10. Microsoft Terraserver - Terraserver is Microsoft's very popular satellite photo database which can produce aerial images of almost any point on earth.
  11. National Geographic's Xpeditions - focuses on an interactive world featuring atlases, forums for discussion, exhibits, and geography standards to review.
  12. AskAsia - This site has comprehensive information, resources, and teaching materials about Asia and Asian-Americans.
  13. Chinese Garden Markets - This site is a photojournal of a tour through the Chinese countryside showing what life in small Chinese villages really looks like.
  14. Six Paths to China - This is actually a set of several web activities dealing with China from PacBell. All are designed as instructional tools to be used on-line by students. It involves students working as teams to research and discuss using high level thinking skills. The site has an evaluation rubric for both individual and team evaluations. It is applicable for both student and teacher assessment.
  15. Japan - Images of a People - This site offers a complete introduction to Japan and its arts, including discussion ideas and lesson activities.
  16. Middle East Network Information Center - This site contains information and resources on the Middle Eastern countries. It also has additional areas such as K-12 resources and libraries and electronic publishing.
